Sooooooo...
If I put together an ATS retreat in beautiful northwoods Wisconsin, would any of you actually rilly rilly come? I'm thinkin' summer 2009.There is a wonderful retreat center here www.christinecenter.org/ that I recently found out about (am hired to do a workshop) and visited and it would be *perfect*! Lovely dance space, peaceful surroundings, area to do drumming and dancing by the fire at night - just PERFECT!!! And retreat meaning, no scheduled workshops, just dance and girl time. :O) I would be more than willing to organize the retreat for not much more than actual cost of reserving the dance space. Attendees would need to also pay for their own lodging and meals (delicious vegetarian meals!). Really, I'm not looking to make a profit... just wanting to get a bunch of us ATS dancers together to just *enjoy* each other and the dance. So, what say you? Hmmmmm??

Re: ATS Retreat??
Sat, May 10, 2008 - 9:46 PMI would do it in a second if I were anywhere nearby, but I'm trapped - broke and hot as hell - in Florida!
I hope you do it, though...and I may steal your idea to use in our neck of the woods! :-)

Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 8:42 PMMiss Di... I told Leslie back in May that you two were welcome to come up and practice with Shades Of Araby, but she didn't get back to me!
Who not feelin' the love? Me not feeling the love! I can't haz cheezburger... :(
I'm cooking up a plan to have an ATS hafla for all my students in June (I really want to try and match some of them up to see how they play off each other...), and you two are so invited if your busy social schedule can handle it. I haven't set a date yet though.
And who is this young man you are kissing in your profile, Young Lady? Is he Unca Vali approved? He isn't the same young man I met at Leslie's party... HMMmm? -
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 8:25 AMBoo and I are so wanting to get together with you three! And a hafla with ATS?? We'z a lettle buzy but we'll figure something out! The boy Leslie and I are smooching in that picture is a local dancer....he's taken so we're trying to deal with that the best we can so I guess I'll just keep the current boy (that you met at the party :)
Lets figure out a time to come up and practice! I'll get on her about it :)

Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 6:57 AMOh Val! Bad choice of words - but you should *know* you're always included!!! A gentleman dancer who regularly attends my haflas just laughs at me now and says "just call me one of the girls!". :O)
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 3:07 PMI'd come. If I could get some "girl time", and some "Valizan time", at the SAME time... ;)

Re: ATS Retreat??
Sun, May 11, 2008 - 8:16 PMi'm trying to get as much FCBD & Carolena that i can. perhaps check in with the mothership? i'm open to traveling once a year to get my FCBD-ATS fix. i wouldn't want have to choose between "tribal village" and the retreat. -
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 7:06 AMExactly! If they get Tribal Village going, it would probably just become a very local retreat - I don't want to compete with that, that's for sure!! Is there any definite word on Tribal Village? Hope I didn't just zone it out! (though that would be just my speed - lol)

Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 3:34 AMMy drummerwife and I haven't been in that state yet. Sign us up! -
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 6:44 AMThe travel is not problem for me. I love driving around the U.S. and I enjoy new places to drive to. I've never been there so it would be an adventure.
It would really depend on the price and exactly when in the summer it would be. I already go to a yearly week retreat at the end of summer so time off would be an issue.
Good Luck!!! -
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 7:20 AMIt would be at the beginning of summer, because I help organize a large festival, Northern Lights, which takes place in September.

Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 7:26 AMCool - drummers!!!! We *love* drummers! My husband and son both drum for us. :O) -
-
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Mon, May 12, 2008 - 5:14 PMYeah Di... isn't this kind of what you were hoping for at one point?? It's not a "festival" ... but it's an ATS gathering :)
We'd go. It would so rock. -
-
Re: ATS Retreat??
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 8:26 AMYeah...this sounds perfect! I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see FCBD there but if they can't make it, it'll be nice to dance with other ATS dancers and learn from each other. It sounds like so much fun!!!

Re: ATS Retreat??
Tue, May 13, 2008 - 6:29 PMI'd love to see what a base cost could be, even if you weren't organizing a pay-once type of retreat (pay once, food and lodging included), it'd be nice to see how much I'd have to save up (excluding a plane ticket).
Of course, this is thinking too far ahead, but it'd be neat to have it organized into something twice annually--one east coast, one west coast.
