Hello all-- Just wondering if someone could clarify two things for me---
The cue for a basic Egyptian with a Full turn?
And do most of ya`ll presume that barrel turns are in a set of 4?
Thanks so much-- Joy

Re: Cues for turning.....
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 6:46 AMFull turn for Basic Egyptian is cued when you are already doing half turns. Once you cue a half turn, you stop cueing them (with the more dramatic torque of the body). Coming back around to the front position & then doing the turn cue again takes you from 1/2 turns to a single full turn.
With "barrel turns", are you talking about calibrated spins? -

Re: Cues for turning.....
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 8:16 AMThe calibrated spins are cued while doing Egyptian half turns. When you're doing a half turn Egyptian and you come forward, the arms come to shoulder length and out instead of above your head. You do do another Egyptian to the back and instead of doing another one forward, you spin.
Its demonstrated here at 2:11. The que for the Egyptian half turn comes in and then you'll see Sandi put her arms out to the side, go back and do one more Egyptian to the back and then go into the spins.

PS..this is my first attempt at explaining a move. How'd I do? :)~ -

Re: Cues for turning.....
Sun, April 27, 2008 - 9:11 AMNot bad, Diana! But Calibrated Spins aren't just cued from 1/2 turns. They can be cued just by doing the Egyptian facing forward. I just have a habit of cueing them from a 1/2 turn. ;} -

Re: Cues for turning.....
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 11:21 AMTwo questions for you, pretty lady Sandi...
1) Do you have any examples I can see where you're cuing the calibrated turns from a move other than a 1/2 turn? I'd like to get a visual grasp on that.
2) Calibrated turns. This is a new term for me. I've always called them "spins" or "paddle turns". When did this name come from? And, why "calibrated" ... I'm always eager to learn about the names of moves, and where they originate from :) :)

Re: Cues for turning.....
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 12:18 PMVol. 7, my friend. It's all in there. ;}
Calibrated Spins means that we are set at doing 8 cts (or 4 spins).
Pick-Up Spins or Partner Spins means there is no set amount of spins as we are facing our partners and can connect with them. Which brings a more playful aspect to the spins. -

Re: Cues for turning.....
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 12:43 PMOooh, is it okay to break up the 4 spins? Do you all have a combo where you can do something in between 2 spins? I ask this since I had originally learned 1 arabic hip twist, 2 spins, 1 arabic hip twist, 2 spins. This is not a FCBD combo (atleast I don't think it is) but they are all using FCBD-ATS moves. I haven't taught this move since I got my general skills training but am curious about those gray areas off combo variations. -

Re: Cues for turning.....
Mon, April 28, 2008 - 1:16 PMWell, since the Calibrated Spins are set at 4 spins, it'd be real hard to catch a change if everyone is spinning and not looking for a cue midspin. It's not something we'd do unless it was a well rehearsed combo and discussed prior to performance.
