I'm sorry if this was already discussed before but I couldn't find anything about it. I have a question about the Double Back as a partner pass. I've seen two variations - one facing your partner when passing, the other one passing back-to-back and then turning to face your partner again. I hope that this was understandable (I'm no native speaker.) Which one is the "official" version?

Hi Rufina,
Where did you see this variation? I've never seen this on any FCBD vids, so "official" is dubious. -

Re: Double Back Partner Pass
Thu, March 25, 2010 - 6:22 AMI have no access to Youtube here, so give me a little bit time to post the link. But the one that passes back-to back is on a FCBD videoclip from Tribal Fest 2008 - pretty much in the beginning. (First they pass to get into a duet position and then they switch sides with a back-to-back turn.) I'm not sure if I have seen FCBD doing the other version, but most other troupes seem to prefer the version where you face your partner while passing, so FCBD might do it as well (or it is just a mistake of the other troupes because this variation is easier to handle). -

Re: Double Back Partner Pass
Thu, March 25, 2010 - 6:35 AMI can't help but think this sounds more like the chico four corners move, rather than the double back...but anything is possible...
Looking forward to seeing video when you are able to find it. -

Thu, March 25, 2010 - 8:06 AMI second this, sounds like whats being described is the duet crossing variation of a Chico 4 Corners.

Thu, March 25, 2010 - 11:02 AMWell whatya know. There is Wendy and Kristina doing it at Tribal Fest 2008. Right near the beginning at 45 seconds.

Re: Double Back Partner Pass
Thu, March 25, 2010 - 12:26 PMThanks Shay, this is the video clip.
And here are two examples of troupes dancing the other variation (facing each other while switching sides). On this video clip at 02:55 min: www.youtube.com/watch
Here at 04:48 min (after doing the regular Double Back and cueing a half turn): www.youtube.com/watch
Now it would be easy to say that what FCBD do is right and the other ones are wrong because they are not FCBD. It is also possible that the move at the FCBD performance is just a variation. Any suggestions? -

Re: Double Back Partner Pass
Thu, March 25, 2010 - 12:32 PMA. Don't take anything FC does on YouTube as gospel. We may have made a mistake, (yes, it does happen! :-) or are experimenting.
B. The Double Back is a move that Megha adapted from a workshop she took, so it is a variation on an existing move by another group, who may not be ATS. You'd have to ask her about that.
C. There is no 'official' version of the partner pass in that move, it can go face to face or back to back, it's all about body position and gaze-leader looks where they are going to go, which indicates whether it will be f2f or b2b. -

Re: Double Back Partner Pass
Thu, March 25, 2010 - 1:58 PMI learned Double Back back in 1998 or so from Hahbi Ru (it's on some of their instructional videos), and then shortly after learned a similar variation from Gypsy Caravan. So it's a move that's been around in other styles of dance for a long time, but then, as I understand it, codified for ATS by Megha/Carolena.
I thought it looked fun, Wendy, with that pass! -

Fri, March 26, 2010 - 4:08 PMWe've practiced passing but not pulled it out of the bag for performance.
It looks nice
