Ok....my brain hurts....
So in volume four, Carolena teaches the double choo choo arms with the arms quite high. When the right hip is bumping forward, the right arm is pulled back , framing the face and the left arm is slightly forward. When the right hip bumps back, the right arm is pushed slightly forward and the left arm is pulled back behind the head. Make sence?????
But in recent performances I have watched of FCBD the arms are different. When the hip bumps forward, the right arm is still back framing the fance, but the left arm comes down to shoulder height. When the hip bumps back, the right arm comes down to shoulder height and the left arm is pulled up and back.
Which is right?!?!?!?! I've been practicing the second way for six years now (arm down to shoulder height)! And since it's done that way in recent performances, that;s what I'm assuming is correct. :/
any imput from you lovely ATS ladies would be luuuuvvleeee.
Thanks in advance!

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 3:30 PMSounds like you're doing it the right way, Jesse. When I do it, the arm that lowers is at shoulder height.

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Wed, March 26, 2008 - 3:44 PMI asked Carolena that same question in the Teacher Training just recently, and she said both are right, but some faster-fast songs you may choose to do the more demure arms, and with slower-fast songs you may choose to do bigger arms because you have the time. -

Fri, March 28, 2008 - 12:41 AMNow... Following up on Shay's explanation... I wonder... would that apply to single choo choo as well?

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 12:47 AMSingle choo choo arms are are at tabletop. So no swapping like in doubles. Just sympathetic movement in the hands. So not the same situation.

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 12:53 AMErm, let me rephrase myself. :)
I realize that singles are at tabletop level, but just how much sympathy do your hands and arms have? You mentioned a different movement for slower music than for faster.
Would that apply for singles too? Would single arms/hands move more demure in a faster song, but bigger in a slower/mid-tempo song? I know they stay at one level, but there is some movement on them, they are not glued static in one place. -

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 8:11 AMNo, Val-I'd say you wouldn't want to make the arm movement bigger, because with the single bump, larger arm movements can tend to look a bit like you're doing the Charleston. :-) -

Re: Double choo choo question.......
Fri, March 28, 2008 - 1:55 PMI thought we were the only ones who did that. :D
Turkish Shimmy also adapts into a very nice Charleston step. -
