re the cue for this move ... i learned the move as Sandi describes it, along with a cue where the horizontal left arm rotates slightly, turning palm more upwards. So it begins with a normal double bump, then cue (left arm rotates so palm is turned upward - when the arm is down only, eg on the 1 and 2 counts!) and the next set flips on the one and finishes 4 cts, then flips back, continuing till move is changed.

Hm. Okay.

I'll try to transcribe my mental process (Warning: Contents may splash about and taste like cola)

Go through regular double bump
When you are ready (ready? READY NOW?! ;-))):
You do your two bumps forward on 1-2, but you change angle slightly to the left on the and before the one. This is your cue.
Finish your back count, 3-4.
On one-two you do your bumps forward.
On 3-4 you pivot on the left leg to turn halfway, landing on four.
The ever important "And..." is the pause before you go again.

Arms on this are similar to Double back, except they have Bumpy arms ;-)))). On the pivot (3 I think...) right arm sweeps 'round with the pivot while left sweeps up in back to get that lovely spiralling effect when you turn. On one, you raise right arm strong like you normally would in DB.

In your version, Principessa Majora, is the flip on the "And?" That would really make this move superfast, no?

That is... you're flipping to the back on the one and finish the 4 cts of the double bump. Then flip around to the front again on "one". BAM!

I don't know that there is actually one in a video-Diane said she's seen it in some videos, so it would be great if she could post a link.

Basically, you do one double bump (4 full counts) facing front, then it flips to facing back for 4 cts. I hope you can visualize that. The only video I know of that it's on is an old Ethnic Dance Festival performance, and I have no way to get it up on the internet.

see, that's the thing. The half turn is more of a flip. In the Cues and Tattoos video, it's a pivoting double bump. The first pivot Carolena does is fast, because she took a longer step, but then you can see that it doesn't flip back around to the front right away. In a half turn, it would be a very crisp flip to the back, then flip to the front.

Funny, I was just thinking the other day about how I'd love it if there were a cue for this so we could use it more often. I like the way it looks.

hey Diana, I hope I didn't give you wrong information-I looked at the cues and tattooes video, and there is no double bump half turn in it. Have you seen it in another video?

It's funny, I've done it, but never thought of it as a half turn, I always, in my own head, called it a 'flip'. But it really is a half turn. And like Sandi said, there is no cue, so you'd talk about it beforehand.

Per the other discussion going on, we now call it a double bump, and there is no half turn with a double bump.

Ha ha! and now is the part where I get to use the FAQ tribe!

http://ats.tribe.net/thread/e53f2b4d-2499-43cb-ad2f-e488f6990412
halfway down is a description of the 'cue' for the SB half turn-it's a more emphatic gesture with the hands and arms, something you learn to recognize with time.

The double bump has a half turn?! It's not on my grand list of steps from GS & workshops, but that might just be us not having picked it up.

The single bump's 1/2 turn starts with a 1/4 turn, and since you don't do 1/4 turns with that step, you know the 1/2 is coming. I would assume a double bump 1/2 turn started the same? It seems like it'd be pretty awkward, though.

I meant the choo choo double. I learned it with a different name and though I tell my students the proper name, I fall back into the wrong name. So sorry.

Are you talking about going into the double bump, or travelling with it?

Going into it with the arm position is fairly obvious if you transition from another step that looks different - that is the only cue I know for it. It's particularly easy to catch & seems to flow nicely out of hip bump and any step with the arms both raised. It's hard to catch & looks really similar to Sununda & Double Back.

Travelling with this step is so slow that it seems really easy to follow, with the angle of the body changing like it does with plain old choo choo.
