Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 7:54 AM"A wet dog never fades. Would it be fair to say that?"
The things you never think you'll read. (Sorry, just had to say that. I now return this thread to those more knowledgeable than I XD ) -

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:59 PMI think the words, "Doing a Wet Dog" would be equally as hilarious as when Shay blogged about her troupe mate saying she "was doing a Camel".

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 6:04 PMhmmmm, I swear I've seen the fabulous Devyani ladies do a faded wet dog, but I'm not 100% on that one. The wet dog can move both forward and backward, so I don't believe it's off limits for fading. -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Sun, September 27, 2009 - 8:49 PMi believe I've seen it faded. Probably not the best fade, but I wouldn't rule out its happening. -

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 10:28 AMwould it just depend on the size of the stage? I'd imagine that since it's kind of a slow mover, a smaller space could work, but not so optimal for a larger one?

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 10:50 AMI'd like to know how one would get away with not compromising the arms whilst fading the Wet Dog.
If the arms are at horizontal when the leads starts traveling back, isn't that considered a 'push back'? Otherwise, how would you know the difference between a push back and a fade if there were no arm regulations? -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 11:38 AMHmmm...I've been doing the wet dog with arms that have much lower elbows than the standard horizontal arm. Is that correct or not? For a wet dog fade would you keep whatever arms you're doing and turn full-on profile to cue the fade? -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:05 PMSee, I'm with Carrie on this one. A Wet Dog happens with arms at the proper horizontal and I consider it a pushback kind of move.
Mary, if you turn full on profile while doing the wet dog, the audience loses seeing the move. If I'm understanding in my head what you're saying. :) -

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:25 PMyeah, you'd have to turn profile to fade, which is why it's not the best move for fading. It's not something I'd fade, but for some reason, I'm thinking I have seen it done.
I also don't think it's a great fade move, because it just doesn't look as good moving forward as it does back. -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:27 PMand Mary, the arms shouldn't be much lower for a wet dog-the arms are as in a shoulder shimmy, elbows soft, but you don't want to lower the arms. -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, September 28, 2009 - 12:31 PMOkay, cool. Thanks to both of you! Off to my FC videos to review arms!
(And I can attest to moving forward with the wet dog not only being less visually pleasing, but being a lot harder, as well!) -

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Wed, September 30, 2009 - 11:44 AMPerhaps my memory is failing me again, but I think I remember talking about the Wet Dog at GS and it is a duet move.
Am I right? (or maybe something has changed).
I do remember Carolena saying that you don't fade in a duet. -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Wed, September 30, 2009 - 11:47 AMIt can be done with duets, trios, or quartets. It moves forward and/or back. -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Wed, September 30, 2009 - 10:22 PMI agree with Wendy (Hi!) it looks/feels better going back - the "fader" from the back would have to be bold and move forward into position REALLY QUICKLY, but I'm sure I've seen it done. -

Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Sun, October 4, 2009 - 8:29 PMThis got me thinking...
Is the wet dog generally done on performance angle, or front on to the audience? -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Mon, October 5, 2009 - 11:02 PMGood question Ziva...
Hm... I went and looked back at vids of my own performances because I wasn't sure what I did. It seems I start in performance angle, go flat to the audience, and then start stepping back. -
-
Re: A Wet Dog Never Fades...
Tue, October 6, 2009 - 9:24 AMI do it in performance angle; I think it gives the audience a better view of the sort-of-bodywave thingy that's going on.
