After we did the circle with both of these movements, I find it hard to switch lead.
With the first one (ASWATcircle) the 2 turns happen on the 5,6,7,8 as the 1-4 is a arabic hip shimmy with turn as preparation. So on the 5-8 you are actually making two spins, how do you come out of this and take front left position? Also I noticed that because the others are still spinning that they end up moving a lot faster than whoever is taking over the lead so they bump in to her :)
Second one: turkish shimmies in a circle: the turns are here on the 1,2,3,4 and on the 5-8 it's turkish shimmies with arms so it is easier to take over lead here, as you are not spinning for the last 4 counts. But I noticed that in videos of Fat Chance people finish the last 4 counts with arabics to take over lead position... how come?
thanks

Re: after arabic hip shimmies with armsand turns in a circle OR after turkish shimmies with arms in a circle
Thu, December 13, 2007 - 10:00 AMYou should all be turning on the same count in the ASWAT, which means the followers shouldn't be spinning any faster than the leader. Are you spotting on each other as you're turning? That will help avoid colliding.
To take the lead out of an ASWAT, you would want to start in the same place as with taking the lead from other moves, at the back of the circle. Instead of continuing to circle around in an ASWAT, from the back of the circle you'd do your turns in a straight line forward, into the lead position. Does that make sense?
As for the Turkish question, the Arabic has a nice, clear arm change, which makes it easy to see , which is why it's often used to change the movement, or lead. But you can transition into any move you like from there. -

Re: after arabic hip shimmies with armsand turns in a circle OR after turkish shimmies with arms in a circle
Fri, December 14, 2007 - 4:14 AMOH so with ASWAT when you take over the lead, you are still doing the turns on 5678, I didn't know that, I though you moved out of it, bu doing a different movement
OK that makes sense then, cause they were bumping into each other, because the one taking over the lead was not doing these turns, but was doing an arabic in stead so wasn't moving as fast as the other dancers...
Just to get this right: with the ASWAT normally you do only one turn, either when on the spot or when doing the fade, but with the ASWAT circle you do two turns on 5-8 right? or still only one turn?

Fri, December 14, 2007 - 7:39 AMYes, you want to finish all 8 counts of the movement before transitioning into a new move.
And yes, when circling with the ASWAT, it is two turns, 1 turn when stationary.
