Hey all...

I'm a bit confused about something. I was watching the '20 Years' DVD, and I noticed Carolena said something about how they no longer use 'a rhythmic body wave'.

What exactly is that? Just a faster version of the body wave? Yes?

    Hi Leslie,

I haven't seen/heard the Rhythmic Body Wave referenced in FCBD Volumes 1-7 (although I may have missed it).

Fat Chance Belly Dance – Volume 1 (Revised) Tribal Basics referrs to the body wave, but states "Although the Body Wave is not a rhythmical movement, it does have 5 clear sections of equal intensity ..."

The Deep Body wave is referenced in Fat Chance Belly Dance – Volume 4 Advanced Workshop and the Walking Bodywave is referenced in Fat Chance Belly Dance – Volume 7 – Creative Steps & Combinations

I've seen this one (Rhythmic Body Wave) referred to in American Tribal Style Beyond Basics with Kajira Djoumahna, and she states that this is used in the Chorus. The arms are in dance posture beside the hips, Count 1: scoop chest forward (chest is at highest point on count 4), fall back. By count 8, hips are back in neutral position. There is also a bit on turning this one.

I haven't seen the body wave referenced in any Gypsy Caravan Video (although their structural roll is similar).

I hope this helps in some fashion.

      Hey Brenda...

The "rhythmic" body wave is referenced in the '20 Years' DVD (FCBD) when Carolena points out it being done in an older clip -- but I couldn't tell what she was referring to. Looked like just a faster body wave, which may explain why she said something about not doing it, as to not confuse it with the arabic.

Just was wondering if that's what it was... just a faster body wave. They don't use it anymore, but I was just curious.

I hear ya Boo. I remember that in the 20 years dvd referencing the Live dvd. Also mentioned was this fast vocab. version of chest circles.
Everything was so experiemental back then. I slightly remember an arabic level thing that I'm really glad got scratched.
Although, there was this one move in (also highly experimental) Tattoed One, which I just adored! I could never figure out how they cued it, so our old troupe at the time made up our own cue.

It's kind of bittersweet looking back. I love and cherish the current format. I'm thankful to have FatChance to do hard work for us figuring out what works and what doesn't.

    Thanks FC!
