I know that normally it is drop the left arm to the right arm in the first two counts, slight lift of the wrist on the AND between 2-3 and then arc while doing the pivot for a regular arc turn, but for the traveling version, I think the drop of the left to the right is delayed by two counts. Or I could be totally mad, and confused this with something else.....
Anyway, I feel like I have learned this before at one of the Tribal Pura events or at the G.S but I was trying to teach it in class this week and I feel like I have the count wrong. I can't seem to find it on any of my 7 volumes, so can anyone point me to a video clip, and or give me the right count for use the arc turn to turn a formation??
Much appreciated,
Joyce

Re: Arc Turn, for traveling in a circle/formation/lead change?
Thu, May 7, 2009 - 7:24 PMThe Arc Arm Turn doesn't necessarily have to have a specific count. It can be quick, it can be drawn out.
I wouldn't use it in a circle because the wrist lift cue for the turn is too subtle and anyone can cue it at that point. When we use the Choo Choo in a circle, there is a flourish that usually happens. The cue for the flourish is when someone lifts their right arm so that both are overhead (1234), then the turn (5678) with left arm at shoulder level, right arm up.
The only time I would use the Arc Arm Turn facing in, is if you do it towards the center of the circle.
Hope that helps!

Fri, May 8, 2009 - 1:49 PMThanks Sandi, that does help!! I think this is what I was seeing (Choo Choo Flourish) and was confusing it with an Arc Turn!
Anyone have a clip of this being performed?? -

Thanks Val, now I understand what they are doing!
And this explains why my Arc Turn with traveling didn’t work quite right : )
I have this DVD, and this is on is Vol 1 too; guess I need to go back to the basics myself!

Re: Arc Turn, for traveling in a circle/formation/lead change?
Fri, May 8, 2009 - 4:49 PMNevermind what I said about the wrist lift cue being too subtle. Duh, the left arm comes down to meet the right and that's a pretty big cue. But still, we don't use it to travel in a circle. Not sure why. Probably looks better going straight forward. -

Re: Arc Turn, for traveling in a circle/formation/lead change?
Mon, May 11, 2009 - 1:18 PMWe've used a modified version of the arc turn in choreography. It wants to stop in place while turning- great if you WANT to stop moving, but clunky and awkward if it's not timed to a perfect spot in the music. The choo-choo flourish looks much more continuous and flowing. Prettier in improv.
