It usually moves backward because it is easier, but you can move it forward. You don't get the same snap in the hips going forward.

Thanks. Does it only move backwards, or is it just easier in that direction, so a different move is generally used to come forward?

Also, the feet take twice as long as the Arabic. 2 cts per step, rather than one.

Can anyone direct me to a video clip of someone performing this step? I just bought Volume 7, but it doesn't really show it clearly from the front- the reflection is vary hard for me to make out and it's mostly blocked by an arm or far away and small on screen, and it's not in the performance section. Most of the steps have a quick performance demo of the step before the breakdown, but not that one.

Right, but when you reach the point of shimming with the hips, are you still alternating shimmy with the shoulders? Visually, I have the impression that the dancers always shimmy with the shoulders. But when I read the theory,I get the impression the shimmy movements should "slide down the body" to the hips, so that the shoulders should stop at a certain point...

In theory and practice, yes. But oftentimes, it happens so fast, its hard to tell.

And, it's not an Arabic Shimmy. It's flat-footed and is just a roll from shoulders to hips, traveling bacwards. This is on FCBD Vol. 7.

well that's a relief!
So do you stop the shoulder shim before starting arabic shim & vice versa?
thanks Sandi

It's an alternating shimmy starting with the shoulders, rolling down to the hips. Like a wet dog shaking - head first, then body, to the tail.

Not sure of all that's happening in Wet Dog Vol 7. Is it a shoulder shimmy followed by an arabic shimmy? or are both moves occurring simultaneously? Also is it an 3/4 shoulder shim or alternating? thanks in advance
