Hi ladies,
I was wondering if any of you lovely gals had any helpful tips on mastering the taxeem. I have been struggling with this move for a while, I have no problems with the maya, but whenever I try to do the taxeem my brain and hips seem to battle against each other and I end up doing a Maya, even when I'm trying really hard not to - how on earth that happens I have no idea. It seems my muscles are not prepared to memorise this move, no matter how many times I stand before a mirror to make sure my hips are going the right way, chanting aloud, "bend the knee, slide the weight, bend the knee, slide the weight", and my butt seems determined to stick out. Is it just a case of drill, drill, drill???

Re: Taxeem tips
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 2:15 AMI'm far from mastering it, but one thing that helped me learn it is putting my hands at my waist. It lets me feel when I engage my oblique muscles. So it's "Engage the right obliques, slide to the left. Engage the left obliques, slide to the right". -

Re: Taxeem tips
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 6:12 AMI agree with the hands on waist approach - it helped me to isolate the right muscles for this move and be able to physically feel them engage as the move was initiated.
Moves can be funny at times. When I first learned the taxeem, no problems. Maya was a different story and it took me forever to get my hips to come up and out. Years later, my Mayas look great, and the taxeem looks a little on the sad side. What felt instinctive (taxeem) when learning it is now less distinctive, and the Maya just does itself without me thinking about it. Go figure!

Re: Taxeem tips
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 12:30 PMI think most people can do either a taxeem or a maya easier than the other step- one is going to come more naturally, while the other will need more conscientious practice. Totally normal.

Re: Taxeem tips
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 1:07 PMThanks gals for the reassurance and the advice, I did a little researchysearchy and certainly do not feel alone or as dumb as I did :o) There's a lot of finesse in the move and lots of points to remember, so I will stick at it, keep practising and stay alert for my posture. On the plus side I do believe my pusscat will be able to perform the taxeem equally as well as I after all the practice and chanting I'm doing within her earshot. Thanks again all, *hug*

Tue, April 1, 2008 - 6:03 PMIt also may help to think of the taxeem and scooping upward into your silhouette as well as doing the hands on the hips.
