Hi all

I'm wondering whether the double hip bump out to the corners in this move is driven with

-the glutes
-the obliques
-something else entirely.

When I do it it feels like a slight gluteal contraction accentuating the weight shift into the actioning side. Anyone else?

    no glute contraction ever!!!!!

the hip movement is driven by bending and straightening the leg on the flat-footed side.

I'd just heard the "no glutes rule". Can I ask why? I can see that glutes generally give a smaller, tighter movement than may show under the heavy costumes, plus it can kill the loose, hip-swing of some moves, but for moves like the choo choo, the leg driven method justs kills my knee.

I have always used a combination of leg and oblique contraction. The trick is to not "snap" it. Glute work tends to snap, as can overuse of the oblique. It's meant to have a little bounce, a little looseness to it, not snappy.
