Hi all
I'm wondering whether the double hip bump out to the corners in this move is driven with
-the glutes
-the obliques
-something else entirely.
When I do it it feels like a slight gluteal contraction accentuating the weight shift into the actioning side. Anyone else?

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 11:06 PMno glute contraction ever!!!!!
the hip movement is driven by bending and straightening the leg on the flat-footed side.

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 11:55 AMI'd just heard the "no glutes rule". Can I ask why? I can see that glutes generally give a smaller, tighter movement than may show under the heavy costumes, plus it can kill the loose, hip-swing of some moves, but for moves like the choo choo, the leg driven method justs kills my knee. -

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 11:59 AMI have always used a combination of leg and oblique contraction. The trick is to not "snap" it. Glute work tends to snap, as can overuse of the oblique. It's meant to have a little bounce, a little looseness to it, not snappy.

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 3:51 PMIt used to kill my knee too Amy and when I asked Carolena bout it, she said make it more hip driven and that helped me tremendously! now i'm pain free!

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Wed, May 6, 2009 - 1:37 PMSandi, would you call these...I dunno....weight transitioning hip bumps, since stationary hip bumps have most of the weight on the left leg and with CFC your weight is actually shifting while you bump?? -

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Thu, May 7, 2009 - 12:18 AMI don't know what I would call them, but I don't transfer my weight until the last bump. -

Mon, May 4, 2009 - 3:37 PMThanks everyone!
Does "no glutes ever" also apply to your 3/4 shimmies? If so, do you use the obliques? -
-
Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 6:42 PMYup. It does indeed apply to the shimmy. When I was taking the GS, Carolena made is all repeat, "I will not use my glues" ... :) -

Re: Hipwork on Chico Four Corners
Mon, May 4, 2009 - 9:44 PMNo glues! :) Heeheehee!
If you're shimmy feels sticky, try not using glues! -
