I am having difficulty in explaining this move to my girls. They just don't seem to get it, and I would LOVE some ideas on how to explain it in new ways through which they might connect.
I currently break the move down into 6 parts. Slide to the left, tilt right shoulder to back wall, scoop chest around inside of barrel, tilt right shoulder to front lifting out of barrel, center chest and release.
How do you teach this move?

Re: The Torso Rotation
Tue, March 10, 2009 - 10:39 AMWhat seems to help my students is two things...
1. Teach it completely without arms at first. Just using the torso only to demonstrate the path of the movement.
2. As a fun visual, I tell them to pretend that they are scratching their backs along the edge of a table that is shoulder blade lever. (twist, scrape your back, twist the other way, back to neutral)
Hope that helps.

This is the torso twist/rotation link from the ats faq tribe that Sandi and Wendy so graciously put together for us. you may find some answers here.
Also, in the Art of Belly Dance Book by Carolena, I pretty sure she has a simple explanation that you could repeat to your ladies. Her words are tried and true, and they work!

Re: The Torso Rotation
Mon, November 16, 2009 - 4:21 PMThe cue is just the action of the start of the movement. Once you center the previous move, your follow should be ready for the next move to start.
Also, breaking it down into 6 parts is rather lengthy, IMHO. As a student, I don't think I could remember 6 parts. Maybe shorten it to 4?
