huh, now here I was thinking I was the one that came up with the spiraling (self circle) Resham-ka! lol I like to chuck a double choo choo on after that, but I really like the spinning idea too. Thanks

I think we do four sets of spins (count of eight), otherwise, yes, with right arm up, left arm down.

It makes for a nice combo. Percuss for eight, then graceful glide for eight.

Valizan - would that be Resham-ka for an 8 count as you pivot (counter clockwise), then 2 sets/8 count of spins?

We just turn on the 8.

So after Resham-ka-ing past eachother, we turn left to face eachother on the eight, EB past eachother turn to face eachother on the 8, and repeat if necesary. I also like to go from here into pick-ups spins. Or Resham-ka around yourself then pick-ups spins.

It seems like whatever works for your group specifically would be best.

I think Joyce's original question was about just one pair of dancers doing a crossing Resham-ka. I don't know if there is a specific breakdown for two pairs (dueling duets)...I would guess you would pre-set that part of it before you take the stage.

Hey, I haven't seen it done as a dueling duet- can anyone point to a video that has an example?

I'm unclear on the formation. Does it start with Pair 1 & Pair 2 facing each other across the dance area, so that they start the move by scooting forward to pass each other, EB+ half turn and repeat back to starting position, like this? (L1 & L2 are Leaders 1 & 2, and the audience is at far left, so the crossing is back-and-forth across the stage)

      o    L2
  /|\ |     o
   |  | /|\ |
   |  |  |  |
   | \|/ |  |
   o    | \|/
  L1   o

Or does Pair 1 face each other and dance as a self-contained unit, and Pair 2 does the same?
      o----------->
       <------------o L2
L1 o------------>

This is just a slight tangent.

When doing Resham-ka, what direction do you travel? I find I often move forward on a diagonal forward angle to the right. Should it be straight forward? Does it matter, since you'd be following the leader anyhow?

I have tried it both ways at class this week, and it works both ways, but the “go right into duel again” is one that is going to take time. First for everyone to learn/master the Resham-k, with zils, and then catching the super fast drop down to hip level of the arms.

But yes, it would look sharp once done right!! Would love to see a clip of you doing it Val (hint, hint….)

I know I have notes on this one from TribalCon, but I still haven’t unpacked everything since we moved to Alaska!

Resham-ka and the Dueling Resham-ka w/  E.B - a question

Hello,
I have a question about the “Dueling Resham-ka w/ Egyptian Basic (E.B.)” - I learned this step and how to use it as a dueling duet at TribalCon from Megha (I do remember this!) and would like to add it to my regular vocabulary but I feel like I am missing something.

For the dueling part, you face your partner and the leader queues the Resham-ka which is used to pass each other. Then 4 counts of E.B flat (back to partner), queue for the ½ turn of the E>B (even though your partner cannot see you, which bring you back to facing your partner.

If you are done dueling, easy peasy, you use a transition step to circle or someone just takes the lead.

But, if you want to duel again, this is where I get fuzzy…

Do you go right into the Duel again?

Or, if you want to Duel again, do you use an 8 count transition before doing the Resham-ka to pass your partner?

The latter is what we did and felt more natural to get hands at hip height for the Resham-ka, but perhaps I am just fighting the past 4 years of my own habits of not going for over head arms (E.B) to hip height arms.

Your advice is appreciated!!
