I am starting to build up my costuming essentials and am trying to buy some different 25 yrd skirts. However, I am 5'10 and am having a hard time finding really long ones. Anyone have any advice?

Do you sew at all, Amira? If so, then I'd suggest adding a top tier to the skirts you find--where your hipscarf or coins will cover it, and where it doesn't have to be 25 yards long! My other suggestion would be to look around on Tribe for those who vend on eBay or etsy--AngelDMort and Qamar come immediately to mind, and I know there are others out there.

    Good luck!

I've bought some extra long skirts from Tribal Bazaar, and they're willing to measure what's in stock. Also, I've found that some of my Jaipur skirts have grown a couple inches from hanging.

My fluffy skirts have grown from hanging, too. I guess the weight does it over time.

Amira - wet them, and hang them to dry. The weight of the water will help pull it downward. This works because the top tier is a circle, so the bias stretches. :) If that doesn't give you enough length (I think you need a good four or five inches, really) we'll have to see if we can add some length somehow at the waist... maybe a new tier for a waistband. You definitely need longer skirts somehow.

TOTALLY ... and if you wet them and hang them, they get longer. I had to stick one of mine in the dryer to try and shorten it up. Holy cow. Now it's faded and I am in the market for a new black one.

I make longer 25 yard skirts... but they arent the super fluffy material that you get from places like Tribal Bazzar (I bet she would measure some for you to check length).

I also recomend the wet and hang...

    it works =0

~Yes!:)~hanging the 25 yard Tribal Skirts usually adds 2"minimum~
~You hang them from the 2 inside tab strings attached at the waistband~
~they usually run 37"long~so that would give you 39"in length~
      ~hand wash cold~hang to dry~
      ~18 solid colors available~
      ~easy care&full&fluffy!

I just bought a skirt from a new Ebay vendor, Smiths Collection, "smithscollection-2008", and am very happy with it- it's 39" long. Sounds like they are willing to dye to order, the price was excellent. I'm not sure it's a full 25 yards as listed (it just doesn't look that full to me, but I haven't measured it yet, so I could be imagining things- or it might just still be compressed from shipping); my guess would be 15 yds- but it's still full enough to tuck properly. The one I got was black with a very rich red dip-dyed border.

      Hints for short gals

I'm 5'2" so I twist and stuff my skirts into pillow cases. After wearing them, I check them for rips or mending needing to be done, then pull the top tier wide to reverse the gravity effect of the bias of the fabric.

To make my skirts a little shorter, I also made 3 small pintucks all around the lower part of the second tier, which reduced the length by about 2 and a half inches.

      Cheers, Susan

I'm 5'8" and the skirts are always too long for me. I think they all vary, so asking a vendor for the longest one they have will probably get you to your solution.
