I absolutely love this move but I'm having some issues with it lately! Watching the DVD, youtube video performances and actually performing it in class with members of FCBD and in performance or with Sister Studio members, I come up with the same question:
Positioning of the hands--up or down.
After what I call the "serve the pizza" move which is the first turn with the right arm swirling above you..... then the right arm floats up and the hand floats down with the palm facing UP or DOWN?
Please clarify!!??!?! My students and I wait with baited breath......

Re: Saqra Turn-Hands & Arms
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 8:06 AMHmm! My palms are facing down, because I usually have zils on my hands, and they tend to make me want to position my hands so they are facing down.
Good (and interesting) question though. I'm curious now, too.

Re: Saqra Turn-Hands & Arms
Sun, May 3, 2009 - 7:42 PMYou know what's funny? I never really paid attention to my hands, but I did this and watched myself in the mirror, and my palms are up.
It's so strange how second nature some things are, that you have to go back and study what you're doing to see exactly WHAT it is you're doing!! I kind of laughed at myself, studying myself in such a way! :)

Re: Saqra Turn-Hands & Arms
Fri, May 8, 2009 - 5:45 PMpalm up...... that is how we have been taught, so from the front it would look like your making the top of a big "C" with your right arm.
I recently was told by another teacher, that "I know everyone does it this way,(as above) but we are going to do it the correct way, like Carolina" pushing palm down as hand passes about chest height.
So much miss information out there.
It's like "Chinese Whispers"...... lol (you know the game we played as kids?) no disrespect intended

Fri, May 8, 2009 - 6:20 PMThe more politically correct term is "telephone game"! -
